Chamberstone of Quiet Relief

Chamberstone of Quiet Relief

Aura
faint conjuration; CL 1st
Slot —; Price 250 gp; Weight 1 lb.

DESCRIPTION

This smooth, flat opalite stone measures approximately 2 inches in length and is shaped like a traditional worry stone, with a shallow thumb-worn depression at its center. It is warm to the touch and faintly smells of clean rain. When held and activated by a simple mental command, the bearer is instantly relieved of bodily waste in a harmless extradimensional manner. The effect produces no sound, odor, or visible byproduct, and leaves the user in a state of complete physical comfort as though natural processes had occurred normally.

The chamberstone functions up to three times per day. Each activation fully eliminates the need for urination and defecation, providing total relief without physiological strain or disruption. This effect does not nourish, hydrate, or otherwise sustain the body - it merely removes accumulated waste.

The magic is strictly self-contained and affects only the creature holding the stone at the time of activation. It cannot be used to target or influence other creatures, nor can it be weaponized or redirected.

LORE

There exists a quiet category of magic seldom celebrated in song or recorded in grand tomes - magic born not of conquest, nor curiosity, but of endurance. The chamberstone belongs to this lineage. It is a solution devised not for glory, but for the simple preservation of dignity in circumstances where such dignity is otherwise stripped away.

Its origins are most often attributed to isolated practitioners - apprentices, tower wardens, and long-term ritualists - individuals who found themselves confined by their own studies. In these environments, time stretches thin, and the inconveniences of the body become not merely distractions, but genuine impediments to focus and survival. The chamberstone emerged as a quiet answer to an unspoken problem.

Over time, the item spread beyond its initial creators. Caravan masters, deep-delvers, siege engineers, and even certain nobility came to prize its subtle utility. Among those who understand its value, the chamberstone is rarely treated as a novelty. Instead, it is regarded with a peculiar respect - an acknowledgment that even the most powerful beings remain bound to the smallest truths of their existence.

Kelwyn’s Notes

It is a curious failing of grand civilizations that they so often record their triumphs while quietly erasing the realities that made those triumphs possible. One may read of a siege lasting months, of wizards locked in ceaseless study, of caravans crossing continents - yet nowhere is there mention of the simple, persistent indignities endured along the way. The body, it seems, is expected to behave with a discretion that reality does not afford.

This stone does not elevate the wielder, nor does it grant power in any sense that history would deem worthy of preservation. What it does instead is restore a measure of dignity where dignity is most easily lost. It acknowledges, without shame or ceremony, that even the most disciplined mind is housed within a vessel that demands attention at the most inconvenient of times.

There is, I think, a quiet mercy in such magic. Not because it solves a grand problem, but because it refuses to ignore a small one. It does not pretend the body can be transcended, only that its demands may be met without humiliation or distraction.

One could argue this is among the most honest forms of arcane work - not an attempt to escape reality, but to live within it more gracefully.
