Pendulum Axe
Pendulum Axe
The pendulum axe is a rare woodland weapon derived from suspended log-splitting tools used in remote frontier communities. Consisting of a heavy crescent axe head attached to a reinforced chain and weighted haft assembly, the weapon builds momentum through wide swinging arcs rather than direct strikes. Though awkward in confined spaces, skilled users can deliver devastating blows capable of splitting shields, timber, and bone alike.
Because of its unusual balance and violent momentum, the pendulum axe is favored primarily by lumber militias, executioners, and eccentric wilderness warriors.

A pendulum axe may be used to make trip attacks. If the wielder is tripped during their own trip attempt, they may drop the weapon to avoid being tripped in return.Due to its swinging momentum, the pendulum axe gains a +2 bonus on opposed Strength checks made to sunder wooden weapons, shields, or objects.
However, the weapon’s unwieldy motion imposes a -2 penalty on attack rolls made in spaces narrower than 10 feet wide.
A pendulum axe counts as both an axe and a flail for the purpose of feats, weapon proficiencies, and special abilities.
