Whisperfang

Whisperfang

Aura
faint illusion and necromancy; CL 7th
Slot —; Price 12,302 gp; Weight 1 lb.

DESCRIPTION

This +1 dagger appears thin and almost translucent, its edge shimmering like breath on glass. Whisperfang grants a +5 competence bonus on Bluff checks made while it is held.

Once per day, when striking a flat-footed opponent, the wielder may channel the dagger’s magic to deal an additional 2d6 points of damage and force the target to succeed on a DC 14 Will save or become shaken for 1d4 rounds.

If used to deliver a coup de grace, the dagger allows the wielder to perfectly mimic the victim’s voice for 24 hours, as though affected by disguise self (voice only). However, each use imposes a cumulative 5% chance that the wielder involuntarily speaks in the victim’s voice at inappropriate moments.

LORE

Whisperfang is rumored to have belonged to an assassin who never needed to hide - because he could become anyone. His victims were not merely killed; they were replaced, their voices lingering just long enough to unravel the lives they left behind.

The dagger is said to hunger not for blood, but for identity. Those who wield it too often begin to forget the sound of their own voice, instead recalling only echoes of others.

In Ravenloft, Whisperfang is frequently found in domains ruled by paranoia, where no face can be trusted and even one’s own voice may betray them.
