DESCRIPTION

This blackwood staff is capped with a skull whose eyes burn faintly with pale blue light. The Staff of the Gravebound Vigil functions as a +1 quarterstaff and holds 20 charges.

The staff allows use of the following spells:

  • detect undead (1 charge)
  • cause fear (1 charge, DC 13)
  • animate dead (3 charges)
  • death ward (2 charges)
  • circle of death (4 charges, DC 17)

If the wielder expends the last charge, they must succeed on a DC 18 Will save or be affected as though by bestow curse, becoming obsessed with guarding a specific location as if it were a graveyard (DM’s discretion).

LORE

The Staff of the Gravebound Vigil is said to have been carried by a sentinel who refused to abandon his post - even after death. Bound by oath and dark magic alike, he rose again and again to guard what he believed sacred, though none remembered what that sacred duty once was.

The skull atop the staff is believed to be his own, still watching, still waiting. It does not speak, but those who carry it often feel compelled to linger near tombs, ruins, or battlefields long after their purpose there has ended.

In Ravenloft, the staff is both a tool and a trap - empowering its wielder to command death, while quietly ensuring they never stray far from it.

The Nieliah Talisman

This magical talisman is created by  Pépin Rey  and serves as a direct connection to the benevolent loa known as  Nieliah . Three times per day the user can call upon the loa, and when they do so a 40' area (focused on the talisman) is covered in a glowing pale blue fog that appears to look like rushing water without ever diminishing in volume.
